Will Guadalupe Garcia McCall Write the Next “Winnie the Pooh”?

We would be hard pressed to find any reader who isn’t familiar with author A.A. Milne, the creative genius behind the classic children’s book Winnie the Pooh. Milne passed away in 1956 in his native England, but his legacy lives on through the beloved characters that he brought to life: Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, Kanga, Roo, Owl, and Christopher Robin.

Milne left large shoes to be filled, but in 2016 – coinciding with the 90th anniversary of Winnie the Pooh being published – a contemporary author will do just that: write the book’s official sequel, returning to the Hundred Acre Wood. Egmont, Nordic publishing house with intellectual property rights to Milne’s characters and oeuvre, recently announced that it is considering writers to pen this important book. Bustle Magazine has made several suggestions including Guadalupe Garcia McCall, outstanding author of Under the Mesquite and Summer of the Mariposas.

Guadalupe McCall is a poet whose books appeal to a slightly older audience than A.A. Milne’s do, but we love this suggestion! As Bustle explained,

“McCall’s books tackle some of the same questions of friendship, family, and identity (with a touch of magic) that Milne did in his Pooh stories. And McCall’s gorgeous, poetic verse would be right at home in telling the stories of Winnie the Pooh and his friends, which really have so much to say to adults just as much to children.”

McCall is as much a dynamic speaker as she is a powerful writer. To invite her to your next literary event, contact Books In Common.
