An excited crowd came out to meet #1 New York Times bestseller Christina Baker Kline in Moses Lake,WA this February, including a 12-year-old girl who checked out Orphan Train just before Christina’s arrival and decided to stay for the Orphan Train presentation. Said librarian Paula Walters: “She for sure will be a lifelong reader!! Also, I have been getting emails from members of our book clubs thanking me. Moses Lake was just thrilled.”

Author Interview: Margot Mifflin

Opening the Discussion on Environment through Fiction
TC Boyle was recently announced as 2014’s The Henry David Thoreau Prize recipient. The award is given annually to nature writers. Although, TC Boyle writes primarily fiction his themes on the effects of global warming (A Friend of the Earth), or invasive animals (When the Killing’s Done) can open discussions around how the environment is evolving and or degrading. TC Boyle pointed out in his interview with USC News, that environmentalist have had positive responses to his books, feeling they reached a different audience that normally wouldn’t discuss environmental problems.

Hurdle of a Successful Author
When an author has large success with a book, the second book can oftentimes hide in the shadow of its predecessor. This shadow is a hurdle successful authors have to overcome. Jamie Ford blogged about his second novel, Songs of Willow Frost, and the effort he is taking to move it out of the shade and into the spotlight behind, On the Corner of Bitter and Sweet.
Christina Baker Kline Talks to Huffington Post
Christina Baker Kline author of, Orphan Train, was recently interviewed by the Huffington Post about Orphan Train, and her thought process behind the story. Baker Kline explains how the characters, although outwardly dissimilar, have similar backgrounds and come to bond around their traumatic experiences and stories.
