Opening the Discussion on Environment through Fiction

TC Boyle was recently announced as 2014’s The Henry David Thoreau Prize recipient. The award is given annually to nature writers. Although, TC Boyle writes primarily fiction his themes on the effects of global warming (A Friend of the Earth), or invasive animals (When the Killing’s Done) can open discussions around how the environment is evolving and or degrading. TC Boyle pointed out in his interview with USC News, that environmentalist have had positive responses to his books, feeling they reached a different audience that normally wouldn’t discuss environmental problems.
