“At long last, sustainable farming has finally arrived,” says Forrest Pritchard, author of Gaining Ground: A Story of Farmers’ Markets, Local Food and Saving the Family Farm. Pritchard saved his own family farm by turning it into an ethical and profitable way to make a living. Recently named as one of Publisher’s Weekly Best Summer Books of 2013, Gaining Ground is (forgive the pun) gaining a lot of ground in the nonfiction world. Forrest is a new face in the growing sustainable agriculture movement, and his memoir recounts his experience of taking over the family farm Berryville, VA after finishing college. A natural storyteller, Forrest describes both the everyday antics of farm life and the serious politics of food-to-farm-to-table business that will make readers rethink how they cruise through their local grocery store. He’s passionate about what he does and is a lively, crowd-pleasing speaker
Holding degrees in English and Geology from William and Mary, Forrest studied under George Garrett with the University of Virginia’s MFA program. He has been published in national magazines (Mid American Review, New Delta Review, Acres USA, etc) and his farm, Smith Meadows, has been featured on NPR and the Washington Post. Welcome Forrest!
