At long last, a theater release date has been set for the film version of Lisa Genova’s book Still Alice. Genova’s fans can see the movie, which premiered at last September’s Toronto Film Festival, starting January 16th, 2015.

Still Alice is, at its core, a story about living with and surrendering to degenerative illness. The story’s protagonist is a successful Harvard linguistics professor named Alice who begins to notice memory gaps in her personal and professional life. After being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s, Still Alice shows the progression of Alice’s disease and how it affects her emotions and her relationships.

Wildly popular when it first was published in 2007, Still Alice has received a new wave of publicity in light of its movie release. Alice is played by Julianne Moore, who is flanked by the likes of Alec Baldwin and Kristen Stewart. The Oscar buzz has already begun for Moore’s performance in this harrowing role.

Just as her characters come to life on the page and big screen, Genova is also a powerful presence and a dynamic, moving speaker. She regularly presents at academic institutions and libraries, and you can invite her to visit your venue by contacting Books In Common.
