Sister Helen Prejean Remains Avid in Fighting the Death Penalty

Sister Helen Prejean, a nun of St. Joseph, author, and activist, continues to be part of the national discussion on capital punishment as she gets involved in the Boston Marathon bombing trial currently going on in Boston, MA.

Sister Helen is the author of Dead Man Walking, the story of her experience as spiritual advisor to a man on death row during the 1980’s. Published in 1998, it sparked a widespread conversation on the topic and over the years, she has advised several more men awaiting execution and witnessed their deaths. This inspired her second book in 2006, The Death of Innocents.

Dubbed an “icon of the anti-death penalty movement” in a recent Boston Globe article, Sister Helen’s tireless work to inform the public about the death penalty has not diminished since her first step into this dark and controversial world over 30 years ago. She is hard at work writing her third book, River of Fire, and advocating for social justice around the country.
