Charlie Lovett, author of The Bookman’s Tale
As an antiquarian bookseller and collector, Charlie Lovett possessed both a love for books and an inspiration for his novel The Bookman’s Tale. He was born the son of an English professor and grew up in the North Carolina mountains, a countryside he still feels an affinity for.
After spending many years as a bookseller, he eventually left the business to earn his MFA in Writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. He maintained his passion for book collecting, though, as he built a growing collection of Lewis Carroll books and memorabilia.
After writing a memoir about his mother, Love, Ruth, Lovett began writing children’s drama for his wife, who taught a grade school drama program. These plays include the Shubert Fendrich Playwriting Award winner Twinderella. Lovett’s books include eleven non-fiction titles and several novels, including The Program, The Fat Lady Sings, and The Bookman’s Tale.
