Pekin, IL Public Library to Host Author Laura McBride

Laura McBride, We Are Called To RiseThe Pekin, IL One Book One Community program is highlighting its 2016 selection, We Are Called to Rise, with a visit from author Laura McBride on Tuesday, October 25 at the Pekin Public Library.

This is the third high-profile author event that Books In Common was able to help facilitate for the Pekin Public Library. Many thanks to the Pekin Library’s Director, Jeff Brooks. We’re confident it will be a fantastic event!

We Are Called to Rise is a story about families — the ones we have and the ones we make. It’s a story about America today, where so many cultures and points of view collide and coexist. A middle-aged woman attempting to revive her marriage. A returning soldier waking up in a hospital bed with no memory of how he got there. A very brave eight-year-old immigrant boy.

Told in four pitch-perfect voices, Laura McBride’s deeply moving debut shows what happens when the protective borders of our lives are suddenly smashed and how ordinary strangers can rise to the extraordinary challenge of caring for each other.

Books In Common has helped libraries, colleges, and venues facilitate events with Laura for several years. If you’re interested in working with Laura or highlighting her story about diversity, family, and community, call or email Books In Common.
