Vote for the Garfield High School’s Follet Challenge video! Hosting Jamie Ford, author of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, as part of their One Book One School initiative inspired the Garfield High School to continue developing this program for their students. In addition to providing copies of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet for all students to read and discuss, the school hosted Jamie Ford for a speaking engagement last November.
The school subsequently created a video about their One Book One School activities and submitted it to the Follett Challenge, which awards cash prizes to deserving schools in the US and Canada. Garfield High School’s many activities included tours around Seattle’s International District, which provided the setting for Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, and a speaking visit from the Book-It Repertory cast of the book’s theatrical adaptation.
Jamie Ford’s next novel, Songs of Winter Frost, is due for release this September.
