Creative, Multi-Generational “Orphan Train” Programming at ALLen Reads

ALLen Reads!, the community reading program (CRP) in Allen, Texas, wrapped up its programing last week. Each year, the Friends of the Allen Public Library select a book to be featured in this CRP. The title pick for 2015 was Christina Baker Kline‘s “Orphan Train”.

This year’s ALLen Reads! program was a great success. More than 2,500 people attended Ms. Kline’s three presentations, casual dinner, and reception. A highlight of the two-day CRP occurred when a group of student actors performed a play version of “Orphan Train” for Ms. Kline and then had the opportunity to interview her about the orphan train movement that inspired their performance.
