Centre County Reads, a Community Reads Program in Pennsylvania heading into its 14th year of programming, is delighted to welcome author Karen Abbot—dubbed the pioneer of “sizzle history”—in April of 2016. This year’s selection Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy, is not only a common reads favorite… it has all the makings for a read that is educational, entertaining and thought-provoking. It’s an off-the-charts history lesson, a spy story, and an illuminating investigation into gender barriers, stereotypes and identity still relevant today.
Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy follows the spellbinding true story of four women who risked everything to become spies during the Civil War. The universal themes of heroism, war, patriotism, and conviction detailed in an 1861 United States, create powerful, pertinent conversation as we contend with these very same themes in our communities in 2016.
