Sonia Nazario Speaks about Child Immigration

Sonia Nazario, Pulitzer winner and author of Enrique's Journey

The television show, America with Jorge Ramos, recently interviewed Sona Nazario about, Enrique’s Journey, and the dramatically increasing numbers of children coming into the US without a parent or guardian. The influx of drug cartels as well as gangs that force these young children to smuggle drugs into the US makes them refugees rather than illegal immigrants, according to Sonia Nazario. She also gives an update on Enrique, the protagonist in Enrique’s Journey, and his current situation in the US.

An excited crowd came out to meet #1 New York Times bestseller Christina Baker Kline in Moses Lake,WA this February, including a 12-year-old girl who checked out Orphan Train just before Christina’s arrival and decided to stay for the Orphan Train presentation. Said librarian Paula Walters: “She for sure will be a lifelong reader!! Also, I have been getting emails from members of our book clubs thanking me. Moses Lake was just thrilled.”

Jamie Ford Passes Out Books

New York Times bestselling author Jamie Ford

World Book Night was celebrated last week by handing out free pre-selected books, book signings, and other literary themed events. Jamie Ford spoke about his experience participating in this large event on his blog. They handed out copies of his novel,  Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, at the actual hotel it’s based on: the Panama Hotel.

Camarillo Library to Welcome Jaime Ford

Jaime Ford’s Song’s of Willow Frost was this year’s Community Read selection for Camarillo Library, located in California. Camarillo was a role model for nearby cities when it adapted “One City, One Book”; a program that encourages all members of the community to join together in reading and discussing one novel.
