Reyna Grande
Reyna Grande, author of The Distance Between Us, visited the Petaluma High School as part of the school’s community reading. The memoir was so popular among students, many of whom come from Hispanic backgrounds similar to Reyna Grande’s, that her reception was likened to a rock star visiting. Both with her book and her speaking engagement, Reyna Grande connected with students and, by sharing her own experiences, helped them understand their own.
The Distance Between Us was recently nominated for a National Book Critics’ Council award in autobiography.
