Estes Valley, CO, is buzzing with energy now that its 2014 community reads program – One Book One Valley – is underway. Currently in its fourth year, One Book One Valley is a program that coordinates activities and lectures throughout the fall season, centering on a theme or series of themes that are captured in its title book. 2014 is the 100th Anniversary of Rocky Mountain National Park, so Estes Valley selected a book concerned with the landscape and conservation issues close to residents’ hearts.
Egan’s The Big Burn is a beautiful and important book, which delves deep into the origins and tumultuous history of the early American conservation movement. Copies of the book have been circulating among readers for the last several months and on November 18th, Egan will visit Estes Valley and provide a multimedia presentation to the community about his book and early North American conservationists.
Tim Egan is an author and journalist who has won the National Book Award for Nonfiction as well as the Carnegie and Chatauqua Awards. His most recent book, The Big Burn tells the story of the largest wildfire in North American history – and the legacy it created for Americans and their leaders. Egan resides in Seattle with his family, and he regularly speaks at venues around the country. For more information about hosting Tim Egan, contact Books In Common.
