Christina Baker Kline’s Orphan Train Selected as 2015 Centerpiece of One Book One Philly

One Book One Philly is an annual community reads program in the City of Brotherly Love that aims to promote literacy across all ages and walks of life in Philadelphia. For the past twelve years, OBOP has selected titles that unite the community and foster dialogue through diverse programming including school discussions, art installations, book-inspired performances, and author presentations. This year, a book by Christina Baker Kline will be featured in One Book One Philly. Kline will kick off OBOP’s 2015 programming with a presentation on January 22nd.

When asked how she felt about Orphan Train being selected for this prestigious community reads program, Kline responded that she was honored and said that the book presented unique topics to spur important city-wide discussion:

“It tells a story many people don’t know about – I certainly didn’t – a story hidden in plain sight in our history.”

Indeed, since its publication in 2013, Orphan Train has been selected by dozens of community reads programs at colleges, universities, and libraries throughout the United States. Kline is a regular and well-loved speaker about her book and the Orphan Train movement that inspired its writing.
