Charlie Lovett

As an antiquarian bookseller and collector, Charlie Lovett possessed both a love for books and an inspiration for his novel The Bookman’s Tale. He was born the son of an English professor and grew up in the North Carolina mountains, a countryside he still feels an affinity for.
After spending many years as an antiquarian bookseller, he eventually left to earn his MFA in Writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. He maintained his passion for book collecting, though, as he built a growing collection of Lewis Carroll books and memorabilia.
After writing a memoir about his mother,
Love, Ruth, Lovett began writing children’s drama for his wife, who taught a grade school drama program. These plays include the Shubert Fendrich Playwriting Award winner
Twinderella. Lovett’s books include eleven non-fiction titles and several novels, including
The Program, The Fat Lady Sings, and
The Bookman’s Tale.
