Christina Sunley

For her first novel, The Tricking of Freya, Christina Sunley delved deeply into the myths and history of her Icelandic ancestors, including the 1875 volcanic eruption that drove many Icelanders to immigrate to America. The Tricking of Freya explores the fascination with language that permeates Icelandic life and recreates the stark, austere beauty of Icelandic landscape, as seen through the experiences of a young Icelandic-American girl who must make sense of the secrets that have twisted her family's life.

Sunley earned her Master's degree in English/Creative Writing from San Francisco State University and currently works in the non-profit sector.
