Christina Baker Kline’s Orphan Train is University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Common Read

Author and speaker Christina Baker Kline will visit University of Pittsburgh at Bradford this fall to engage students and community members reading her bestselling novel Orphan Train, feature of the One Book Bradford common reader program. Orphan Train will be discussed in freshman seminar and creative writing classes this semester.

Orphan Train has been on the NYT Bestseller list for 90 weeks, is the number one reading group pick, and has been used in more than 50 community and college reads programs across the country. Kline is scheduled to speak at the college on the evening of Nov. 5 in Blaisdell Hall.

A historical novel, Orphan Train details the Depression-era practice of shipping orphans and homeless children to work on farms in the Midwest. Vivian Daly, an older woman living in Maine, receives help from Molly, a troubled teen girl; together they bring alive Vivian’s past as an orphan train rider and forge a bond that may help save them both.
