Michael Hingson

Blind since birth, Michael Hingson found himself trapped on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center Tower on September 11, 2001. Michael couldn't see a thing, but he could hear the sounds of shattering glass, falling debris and terrified people flooding around him and his guide dog, Roselle.

It's the 9/11 story that will forever change your spirit and perspective. Thunderdog illuminates Hingson's lifelong determination to achieve parity in a sighted world, and how the rare trust between a man and his dog can inspire an unshakable faith in each one of us.

"Mike's message of faith, vision and change in an ever changing world was inspirational and thought provoking... As a 9/11 survivor, Michael speaks from a place of survival, but as a blind man with vision, Michael speaks to a world of inclusion, a world where everyone is treated as an equal, without definitions or limitations.Michael's professionalism during the planning and execution of our event was top notch. He and his team remained in contact with us offering their assistance and suggesting ways to enhance the venue. On the day of the event Michael had the opportunity to meet with local TV reporters. Because he sees his work as a collaborative effort between host and speaker, prior to meeting with them he inquired how to represent our church in his conversation.Michael leads by example as he shares his vision for a positive change in the world. It was a pleasure to work with Michael and his team."
-- Reverend Jeri Newell-Davis, St. Mark's United Methodist Church (San Diego, CA)

"I'd say the most interesting moment actually happened at the event with the 3rd-5th graders from St. Peters School. The main event was wonderful, but the children were so in to the conversation and what he had to say. They asked some great questions and loved meeting Africa. They really enjoyed the experience. "

Seamlessly weaving the narrative between the extraordinary exodus from the burning towers and Hingson's fascinating life is a savvy literary device that only enriches the tale. A tragic, inspirational and enlightening memoir.
